21 February 2025 Can Delhi based CA file Audit report of Trust which is situated in Mumbai ? How to upload the Audit Report in Trust web site.? as adding CA shows only Maharashtra district auditors Experts Please advice

12 August 2025 Yes, a Delhi-based CA can audit a trust located in Mumbai — there is no restriction that the auditor must be from the same city or state as the trust.

How to proceed:
Audit Eligibility

The CA must be a member of ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) and have a valid certificate of practice.

No restriction on the location of the CA vis-à-vis the trust’s place of registration.

Filing/Audit Report Upload on the Trust Portal

The Trust Audit portal (like the Charity Commissioner’s or Income Tax Department’s portal) might have a dropdown or filter showing auditors by district or state.

This is likely a system limitation or default filter, not a rule.

You can try the following:

Change the filter to “All” or clear location filters (if available).

Contact the portal helpdesk/support to clarify if out-of-state auditors can be added or to get manual assistance.

Upload the audit report manually (if portal allows) or submit it physically if online submission is restrictive.

Sometimes the portal requires the auditor’s registration number or other credentials — ensure your ICAI details are updated and valid.

Alternative approach:

Get a letter or authorization from the trust explaining that the auditor is from Delhi and authorized to conduct audit.
