Procedure to Cancel the Duplicate PAN
You can surrender the extra PAN card through either online or offline methods.
Online Method (via NSDL/Protean):
Visit the Protean (formerly NSDL) PAN portal.
Select "Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card" as the application type.
Fill in your personal details and enter the PAN number you want to retain at the top of the form.
In Item No. 11, mention the second PAN number you wish to surrender.
Submit the form, pay the required fee, and save the acknowledgement slip.

Write a formal letter to your local Income Tax Assessing Officer (AO) explaining that the second PAN was obtained by mistake and request its cancellation. Provide details of both PANs and attach a copy of the card being surrendered.
Always keep the stamped acknowledgement from the IT department as legal proof that you voluntarily surrendered the extra card.
