is it necessary to give information of other income to employer for deducting tds from salary ?

17 January 2011 Not mandatory since rule 31 (1)(a) is silent though column 7 of form 16 is asking for that. However, section 192(2B) as well as circular 1/2010 (clause3.6) dated 11/01/2010 has used the word'may' meaning thereby it is only directory and not mandatory.
