Tax on nri / citizen in usa

This query is : Resolved

03 March 2014 Sir,

My father is in the process of getting citizenship in the USA. He has around 5.00 lacs income here in India from interest. He continuously visit USA since last 5 years for more than 180 days a year for the process of citizenship. He has no income over there in USA.

Please inform about the Income tax implications here in India when he becomes citizen in USA.

Thanks & Regards.

Rajeev Jhaveri

03 March 2014 indian income shall continued to be taxed in India. nothing changes on account of change in citizenship.

I believe your father tax status in US should be of "Resident". So he should be taxed for whole of the income earned anywhere in the world in USA. So he needs to take credit of taxes paid in India under India-US DTAA
