Got it! Your confusion is about **stock reduction happening twice** when you enter both:
* A **Sales Voucher** entry, and * An **Inventory Voucher** like Delivery Note for the same transaction.
Here’s the explanation and how to handle it in Tally ERP 9:
---
### Why Stock is Reducing Twice?
* **Sales Voucher (Invoice Mode)** — when entered with stock items, it **reduces stock** automatically because it’s both accounting and inventory combined. * **Inventory Voucher (Delivery Note)** — also reduces stock when you record the dispatch of goods.
So, if you enter **both Sales Voucher AND Delivery Note for the same goods**, stock gets reduced twice — once in Sales Voucher and again in Delivery Note.
---
### How to avoid double stock reduction?
You should choose **one of these two methods**, depending on your business process:
#### Option 1: Use **Sales Voucher** (Invoice mode) ONLY
* Enter sales with stock items in the sales voucher itself. * This reduces stock automatically, so **do NOT use Delivery Note** separately for the same transaction.
#### Option 2: Use **Delivery Note** + **Accounting Voucher** separately
* Use Delivery Note to record stock movement (reduce stock). * Use **Receipt Note or Sales Entry (without inventory details)** for accounting entries like sales amount and accounts receivable. * So here, sales voucher is just accounting, and Delivery Note handles inventory.
---
### What Tally recommends?
* If you are selling goods with GST or VAT and stock management is required, usually you **use Sales Voucher in invoice mode**, which integrates both accounting and inventory. * Delivery Note is used **only if goods are dispatched without invoice or in multiple steps** (e.g., partial dispatch, or separate billing).
---
### Summary:
| Scenario | Use Sales Voucher (Invoice) | Use Delivery Note + Sales Voucher | | --------------------------- | --------------------------- | --------------------------------- | | Single step sale & delivery | Yes | No | | Separate dispatch & billing | No | Yes |
---
### Final tip:
* When you enter sales voucher **with stock items**, don't enter Delivery Note for the same transaction. * If you use Delivery Note, make sure sales voucher is **without inventory items**, just accounting entries.
