Stamp Duty paid on the purchase of a residential property can be claimed as a deduction under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. However, Stamp Duty paid for the purchase of a shop is not eligible for this deduction. If you claim Stamp Duty for a residential property under 80C, it's treated as an investment, but this benefit can be revoked if the property is sold within five years.
