I have purchased a share amounting to 500000/- in my name in my demat account in January 2010, if i sell this share during this year what is tax liability on me?

Since the period of holding is more than 12 months, the share is a long term capital asset.
Assuming the share will be sold through a stock exchange (STT will be paid onsuch sale), the gain arising from such share shall be exempt.
