what is mid cap and small cap company in share market?

The word cap means market capitalisation. market capitalisation means no of shares traded mulltiplied by the market price.
Mid cap companies are companies having market cap in excess of 500 cr but less than 10000 cr or such amounts as may be prescribed by the stock exchange.
Companies with market capitalisation less than Rs. 500 cr are considered as small cap.
Again these limits are set by the stock exchanges and are subject to interpretation of individuals.
