Rebate under section 87a

Hi
As per sec. 87A rebate of 2000/- is available if total income is up to Rs.5 Lac.
say if Total income is Rs.5,00,000 tax will be Rs.28000/- but if Total income is 5,00,100 tax will be 30,020 means by increasing income only by Rs.100/- tax increases by Rs.2000/-.
