Rebate u/s 80gg

21 May 2012 I just wanted to know the procedure for claiming rebate u/s 80gg towards rent paid, in case an employee does not get any HRA from the employer.

Kindly explain with example. I will be grateful to you.

24 May 2012 Deduction is available for the lower of the following:

1. Actual rent paid less 10% of total income.
2. Rs. 2,500 per month.
3. 25% of total income.
