Preserving Records

13 October 2007 For how long the records should be preserved under the Central Excise Act, Customs Act and Service Tax Act ? (Like there are minimum 8 years as per the Companies Act.)Please also tell me that for how long a CA. should preserve its clients records and working papers ?

13 October 2007 As for my best of knowledge, accounting records should be kept for sixteen years ie.,Day book and ledgers and eight years for all accounting records ( Vouchers etc).

So. it is advisable for a CA to preserve his clients' records for sixteen years.
