01 October 2010 Dear Sir/Madam,
Can anyone tell how to read the PAN number. Upto what I know is that the 4th alphabet stand for (individual/company/firm/trust/HUF etc) and the 5 the alphabet stand for (Surname/companies name/firm name etc).

What does remaining alphabet and numbers stands for

The 6th to 9th characters are sequential number running from 0001 to 9999.
Last character is an alphabetic check digit.
