Income Tax deduction u/s 80 C

09 December 2009 Dear Sir

If husband and wife are salaried employees, whether it is possible to claim the same payments made towards LIC, PPF, Children education fee etc as deductions u/s 80 C by both husband and wife in their individual returns.

09 December 2009 80C deduction will be available to only that person who pays it.

You cannot claim for two times. Do you think; it is logical to claim two times the same payment ?

11 December 2009 You can claim it in the both the returns ....bt the overall calim should not exceed actual amount.....

say total deposit in PPF is Rs.50000 then in aggregate both husband and wife can not claim more than 50000 for PPF account
