my client gifts Rs 120000/- through cheque to his mother in law
is a gift deed is necessary?
if so what is the format of gift deed?

Gift deed is not necessary. This is upto the parties whether they opt to get the deed executed or not. In case u need the format of the gift deed pl provide me ur mail ID.
