Formation of a charitable institution

Old students of our school was planning to form a Charitable Institution for helping the poor students and also planning to do some social wok. In which form we should register?.Trust/AOP/Society ?? We have donations from our members residing outside india.We should also get Tax exemptions.Please help

Register it as Society and also register it as charitable society u/s 12A. Donation has to be received from NRI members.
