FILING OF IT RETURN IN CITY OTHER THAN ADDRESS OF PAN

31 May 2011 I HAD APPLIED FOR MY PAN CARD IN 2009-10 FROM SURAT. HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT FILED ANY IT RETURN TILL DATE. I CURRENTLY RESIDE AT AHMEDABAD. NOW, I DESIRE TO FILE MY RETURN FROM AHMEDABAD FOR THE FIRST TIME MANUALLY. I WOULD BE EAGER TO KNOW, WHETHER I WILL BE ABLE TO FILE MY RETURN FROM AHMEDABAD MANUALLY, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT MY ADDRESS WHILE APPLYING FOR PAN WAS OF SURAT. KINDLY PROVIDE GUIDANCE FOR THE SAME. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

31 May 2011 As the process has been centralised, filing of IT returns can be done anywhere in the country, at IT offices. However rule 12 of the Income tax rules,1962 is silent about the place of filing.

Electronic filing of returns introduced in 2004. Individuals can file returns either themselves or through authorised intermediaries who should digitize the data and send it to the IT Department through online.

31 May 2011 Dear warrierji, I am not going to file the IT return online, as I have stated it earlier. I am to file my return manually. Are there any procedural norms to be fulfilled since I have shifted my residential address to other city. However, as I have already mentioned, I have not filed any return till date. Awaiting a positive reply again. Thanks in advance.

31 May 2011 You may,in that case, apply for change in address in income tax data base by using
the form'request for new pan card or /and change or correction in pan data'. Then file return at Ahmedabad.
