e-filing of income tax returns

e-filing of income tax returns started in a.y.2006-07 and then in 2007-08 onwards it expanded...i want to ask for which category of assessee's it is compulsory to file online return?

For A corporate compulsory & for non corporate assessee it is compulsory if tax audit is compulsory for him/her.For others it is optional.It is convenient to file online return.

Subsequent notification is 'Electronic Furnishing of Return of income Scheme 2007' vide notification no S.O.1281(E) dated 27/7/2007 reported in 292 ITR (St) 161. Pl check this also for mandatory requirements.

All Corporates and Partnership firms who are required to do tax audit u/s 44AB.

please if anybody can provide any notification giving clarification like...if it is compulsory for an individual to file online return....we filed online returns of individuals as well as firms having tax audit...sm person has come claiming that it is not mandatory for individuals to file online returns...it is for only companies and firms having tax audit....please if anybody can clear it...and also if partnership firm having no tax audit is to file online return or not??
