Claiming exemption on transport / conveyance

01 June 2011 In my salary i do not receive any conveyance allowance. but i Receive a allowance under head "special Allowance" for rs 2836 pm.

My question is :

I am professor teaching MBA at reputed Intitute. I spend Rs 1500 to commute from metro to college and back to attend daily offcie / college duties by bus provided by college and I pay Rs 1500 pm to college administration department.

Can I claim exemption of this amount? if yes how much ?

01 June 2011 ask ur employer to restructure ur salar and ask to provide for conveyance allowance then only u can clim exemption which is 800 per month

01 June 2011 restructuring is not possible as I am not in position to dictate terms. However if i understand correctly If I do not get conveyance allowance I can't get exemption.

Can I treat special allowance for this purpose?

01 June 2011 yes sir, this is special allowance ...its valuie is rs 2836 pm....and previous query allowance was academic and research allowance and mount was rs 2,500 pm...would really appreciate your reply on this also
