can carried fwd unabsorbed depriciation be set off from any other head of income?

Yes subject to the provisions of section 71(1) of The Income tax Act,1961.

but what about prov of section 72?in what case does that work?

Section 71 is inter head adjustment whereas section 72 is intra head adjustment.
