07 October 2015 Dear expert, My client had received a letter u/s 148 of income tax on 10/3/2015 for the Assessment year 2010-11.Then he received letter u/s 143(2) on 20/05/2015 and after that he received letter u/s 142(1) on 13/07/2015 for the above assessment year.is it valid procedure? Can assessing officer demand all the vouchers and books of accounts for the year 2009-10 i.e. A.Y. 2010-11. Please guide me.

08 October 2015 Normally Proceedings u/s 148 gets time barred for AY 2010-11 by 31/03/2015. hence you have received 148 notice on Time. It is a perfect Case of Reopening of Assessment. You must obtain reasons for reopening u/s 148. If reasons are not valid, you may question reopening. you may even file an appeal. However if the reasons are valid, you must furnish all the documents as desired by the notice u/s 142(1).
