80C Exemption on Stamp Duty Paid on MOD of housing Loan

This query is : Resolved

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether stamp duty paid when creating a Mortgage Deed (MOD) for a housing loan can be claimed under Section 80C of income tax. The consensus is that it cannot be claimed as an exemption. This is because the stamp duty is for securing the loan, not for the 'transfer of property to the assessee' as required by Section 80C(2)(xviii)(d).
