19 October 2010 Dear All,

I wanna know that undder the notification no.18/2009 dt.07.07.2009 of service tax. i had to submit my returned by the 15 Oct 2010. Unfortunately I couldn't submit my return by the above said date. Will i have to pay penalty or not?

19 October 2010 If there is some reasonable cause of non-filling of return - No penalty.

Otherwise-

delay up to 15 days- Rs. 500
beyond 15 days to 30 days - Rs. 1000
beyond 30 days Rs. 1000+Rs. 100/day

Total penalty should not exeed Rs. 2000)
