Regarding the tendering of TDS challan by a government deductor:
**As per Income Tax Rules,** the TDS amount deducted must be deposited **within 7 days from the date of deduction**.
* This means the government deductor has **7 days time after the day of deduction** to deposit the TDS challan amount at the authorized bank. * It is **not mandatory to deposit the TDS on the same day** of deduction.
This timeline applies to both government and non-government deductors.
---
**Reference:** Section 200(3) of the Income Tax Act and Rule 31A of the Income Tax Rules specify that TDS deducted must be deposited within 7 days of deduction.
---
If the TDS is not deposited within this 7-day period, interest and penalties may apply.
