Tax on ESPP sold

05 April 2011 Hi,

I was working in a MNC.I have left the company and working as a Freelancer since May2010.

I got some ESPP shares when I was employee.

I recently sold them in March 2011.I held these shares for more than 2 years

I also paid FBT tax while I was in the company.

My question is that Do Ihave to pay tax on the earnings from ESPP sale?
If yes how much Tax I have to pay ?

17 May 2012 You must have sold the shares on a recognised stock exchange. Accordingly, STT must have been paid on such shares.

Therefore, the gain is exempt in your hands.
