30 April 2010 If A company gives sodexo food coupons of Rs. 100 per day (i.e. Rs. 50 per meal and 2 meals per day) is the entire Rs.100 exempt????

Does meal include breakfast and lunch???

the income tax act doesnt give the definition of meal. it just says Rs.50 per meal????

plz let me kno if Rs.100 per day is fully expempt

30 April 2010 my view is yes. Because in the act is not told the limit of meal perday.it simply says up to Rs.50 per meal exempted and also food facilites during office hours is clearly mentioned so if based on your office timings 2 meals can justifiable.you can claim the same

01 May 2010 hmm thanks....

my office timings are 9 am to 6.30 pm.
Can two meals be justified?

Can we say
1) Rs.50 for lunch
2) Rs.25 for morning snacks
3) Rs.25 for evening snacks

coz IT act says tea and snacks during office hrs is fully exempt.
so can that be used to justify the Rs.100???

one more doubt : if this is so much beneficial then why not all companies do it???

01 May 2010 Meal definition is not provided in the Act. the option for opting the same totally dependent on the employee.your option also may works out
