service tax on weightment charges in case of GTA

10 June 2009 Whether consignor or consignee has to pay service tax on weightment charges(dharmkanta charges) charged by the GTA in freight builty.If yes,under which circumstances? please clarify with example.

11 June 2009 The weighment charges are incidental and anciliary to the Transportation Service. Hence, this charge should also be included in the assessable value. Tax need to be paid on 25% of the gross value.
