Service Tax on Lorry frt

Dear Sir,
Our unit was a tradig unit and it is a propriertorship concern.
We are paying frt charges for our stocks inward and outward ( morethan Rs.5000/- per trip)
Are we lible to pay service tax on freight charges paid?

The specified reciver of Goods Transport Agent is liable.
Whether the services provided to you are by goods transport operator or owner is important. If no consignment note issued then it may not be a GTA but a GTO. The FM in his speech made it clear that the levy wouldbe attarected only to GTA and not to GTO.
However the Revenue is disputing this view presently
