Dear Sir,
An Assesse has sold a property in 2015 for a certain sum of money but he lost his purchase deed of the property and so he does not know the purchase price of the property. Now how it is possible to compute capital gains without knowing the purchase price of the property.

Obtain copy of the lost deed from the sub registrar office where the sale deed is registered.

The Assessee is a aged person about 80 years. The property which was purchased and sold was in Siliguri and now he stays in Kolkata, So it is impossible for him to go to Siliguri and do the necessary proceedings as you said. Please suggest any other way out.

Obtain govt valuation rate for that area during that period of purchase.
