A private limited company being dealer of certain excisable goods failed to file Quarterly Dealer Return by 15th Of July for April-June 2013 Quarter. It filed the return on 25th July instead.
How much penalty will be attracted to the dealer and what is the process of payment of delay penalty in excise for a Dealer?

Late filing of return warrants penal provisions as per the excise rules 27 contravening rule 12 (1), CER 2002.
In the recent judgments (for late efiling) the department has charged only Rs.1000/-.

Should I contact my Jurisdictional Officer and tell him that there was delay in filing return...or should I wait for their Notice....or is there anyway I could pay the penalty before their notice...

If you are remitting online payment, pay Rs.1000/- as penalty and take a printout and with a copy of the qtly return, handover the copy of the return to the Range Superintendent. Dont wait for SCN.
