Nil Return Filing

This query is : Resolved

20 June 2009 Madam/Sir,
I have not made any payment(i.e. brokerage) in a quarter. Whether I have to file nil return (Form 26Q) for the same quarter or not in the F.Y.2008-09. If the income of a person is not taxable, should he file income tax return for the year 2008-09?

20 June 2009 Yes, as you have been alloted TAN then you need to file the NIL return.

Also note if the total income of the person is above the threshhold limit then you need to file the return of income.

As the taxable income comes after giving the effect of sec. 10 & deduction of chapter VI.

Experts please clarify me, in case i am wrong.
