Sir, We are doing piling and soil testing works. Is there any new change in Service Tax effecting the civil work contractors. please explain .

Are you doing this for any government infrastructure projects? Anyway soil testing is taxable for sevice tax @ 12.36%. There are amendments and notifications available for civil works contracts about valuation rules and exemption in mega notification. Kindly refer this which comes into effect from 01.07.2012. Major changes : What is shown in VAT return as Material cost is to be taken for exemption for paying service tax.
