Can an employee claim HRA exemption where his family resides though his job location is in another city?
for example, Mr. X is an employee in ABC Ltd., Jhansi and he lives in company premises or in a rented house. However, his family lives in Indore. Can he claim rent paid by him for indore?

HRA exemption can be claimed only for rent paid for residing in the city in which the employee is residing.
