17 February 2012 I have FUV file for FY 2009-10 got from NSDL, now I am unable to open it as there is an error. I want to know that how to open it.

17 February 2012 Deductor/collector is required to furnish one regular TDS/TCS statement for a particular TAN, Form, Financial year and quarter. In case there are any additions/updations to be made to the details of the regular statement accepted at the TIN central system, the same should be done by furnishing a correction statement.
consolidated fvu file for correction in e-tds/e-tcs return can be downloaded after successful TAN registration. If an assessee requests for consolidated fvu file, it receives with in 24 hours from the request time. It is clear that assessee receives consolidated fvu file in zip(with latest version) format. Generally, as and when an assessee try to extract fvu file, it is felt that there is virus in zip fvu file or data is corrupted which has been received as consolidated file in zip format.

With my experience I want to share that your consolidated fvu file in zip format is O.K. Neither it contains any virus nor it's data is corrupted. Simply download latest winzip programmer, install and extract the file. You will got success. Don't forget that the Original Provisional Acknowledgment Number is the password to open the zip file.

17 February 2012 OTHER OPTION IS AS FOLLOWS
If you want to view data available in fvu file. You can easily view it's data properly in excel . Fvu file relates to etds/etcs. It is generated with standard format with it's validation. Some time we feel need to view the data available in fvu file. If we click on fvu file and open with Notepad, data looks like this which is difficult to view/study.
The above data can not study easily or not readable. To view the data follow the following steps as per given as under:
1) Open Microsoft excel and choose file from location using option "Open File"
2) Use delimited option a
3) Press Next and mark in box as "^" in other holding Shift + 6
4) Now, press Next and Finish.
5) Save as file in Excel format in other name.
In this way data can be easily viewed in excel and use with copy and paste function as per our requirement.

27 February 2015 The above is no longer possible, as FVU file is now encoded for the fields other than FileHeader and BatchHeader. However, the .txt file can be opened in Excel.
