Housing Loan deduction

26 March 2010 Sir,
My one collegue has given me proof of housing loan it contains break-up as below

Principal Amt. for 1-4-09 to 31-3-10 = Rs. 9588.00

Interest Amt. for the above period = Rs. 14592

Total - Rs. 24180/-

I want to know under which section principal amount and interest are to be considered

26 March 2010 Under section 24 u can claim the interest Rs.14,592. and u/s 80 C u can claim the principal amount of Rs. 9,588.
