Filing two original returns in same year

28 February 2012 dear sir,
by mistake, i filed two original returns in same A.Y 2011-2102.
on 22 feb 2012 i received notice from IT Dept as follws:-

In connection with processing of your return of income cited above, you are filed two returns one cited above reference and another one through E-filing vide Ack No. 4876456789. You are requested to call on the under signed, either in person or through an authorized representative, within seven days from the date of receipt of this letter and furnish / clarify the following details / evidences:

1. Original From no.16 issued by your employers.
2. To explain the reason for filing two original return of income for same Assessment Years, on consequtive days i.e., 27-07-2011 and 28-07-2011.

I have two basic questions?
1) what is the expiry period for above notice?
2) How to tackle this issue? is it need to go to ITO or not?

Any one please help me.....

29 February 2012 You could only state the fact that the same has happened over site.. i hope the numbers as per both the returns are same.. the notice served is in time and in order.. (maybe upon realising that you had filed two returns.. you could have immediately wrote a letter to the ITO stating the fact and to cancel one of the return filed.. )
