Exempt income for reporting purposes only

This query is : Resolved

25 July 2013 Sir,

I am a govt. salaried person. When I tried to file ITR - 1 for A. Y. 2013-14, there was a column asking about exempt income for reporting purposes only. It was asking to file ITR-2 if exempt income is above 5000Rs. Please tell me what type of exempt income should submit in that column. I don't have any agriculture income. As per my form 16, there is income of Transport Allowance of Rs. 9600/-. I don't know what type of exempt income should be submit in the column.
Please tell me if I need to file ITR -2 for this A. Y. What should I do for the amount received for medical reimbursement and dress maintenance allowance. where should I submit these receivings. Are the amount of medical reimbursement are taxable, if not, do I need to show that amount as exempted income. I am totally confused either I need show that receiving anywhere or not. Please help me ASAP as last date of filing is near. Do I need to show medical reimbursement any where in ITR form ? Do I need to show dress maintanance allowance, Diwali Bonus etc. separately in ITR form anywhere or these are included in Gross salary in my Form 16

thanks

25 July 2013 Exempt income would include incomes like dividend received from a company paying corporate dividend tax, interest income from savings acct max 10k, gift received which is exempt, etc.
Medical reimbursements (exempt max 15k. This would be exempt only if proper medical bills are submitted with employer) wont come here, being of reimbursement nature... It is not an income.
Cheers...

25 July 2013 You have to follow Form 16 and accordingly file ITR 2.

25 July 2013 First thing to be seen is Form No 16. This is the base.

Or
.
Check any supplement showing breakup of total salary income.
.
The "Schedule S" has been made in a very simple manner. Sometimes such simplicity surprises us or creates doubts in our mind.
.
Obtain information from the client (Salaried person) and work out in the manner so that it fits in the schedule. You have to get the figure of Taxable Salary + Professional Tax from this schedule.
.
1. All allowances and Perquisites, and Professional Tax are to be first removed from Gross Salary figure to fill up the figure against Item No 1.
.
2. Check whether Reimbursements are included or not in the Gross Salary. If included then correspondingly must be deducted as Exempt U/s 10.
.
3. In Item No 2. fill up the total of Exempt Allowances. You may have to abstract such allowances from the figure of total allowances. It may or may not require working. This figure will not have its impact anywhere .
.
4. By following the instructions other information regarding taxable allowances Profession Tax, taxable Perquisites etc may be filled in.
