A firm having more than 20 employees is getting a work done through a contractor(Job work) who has less than 20 employees. Hence contractor is not liable to ESI. In this case is the firm liable to ESI on the wages paid to job worker?(who has less than 20 employees)

Yes, you are lible to pay esi because you are registered with ESI, contractor is appointed by you, in case any incident happen in your premises you are lible for that.
