Effective date of appointment of auditor in casual vacancy

Can new auditor be appointed be appointed w.e.f a date which is few days gap from resignation of earlier auditor or should the new appointment be in continuation of earlier appointment?

10 September 2012 In case of resignation the vacancy can only be filled in general meeting. And ofcourse the date of appointment will be date date of EGM and the new auditor has to audit the complete year accounts of the company.

10 September 2012 here the situation is:
the erstwhile auditor signed accounts for 11-12 in April '12. Post that, he resigned in 18.05.12. company held an EGM at a shorter notice on 24.05.12 & appointed a new auditor. will this new auditor be appointed by the members w.e.f. 18.05.12 or his appointment will be w.e.f. 24.05.12?

11 September 2012 Appointment was made on 24.05.2012,however, the auditor shall audit the accounts of the company for the entire year... irrespective of the date he has been appointed.

The Auditor has to file form 23B.
