07 March 2013 The mandatory e-filing will be applicable from the coming assessment year 2013-14 for income earned in the financial year 2012-13. The government is pushing the use of technology to reduce the compliance burden as well as make it easier and faster for the tax department to obtain information on the taxpayers' base.

07 March 2013 I didn't see such a news in the Chennai/Cochin edition nor an amendment in section 139 D in the Budget 2013-14.

07 March 2013 Saw the news in the link given. Thanks for sharing. But to become mandatory an amendment has to come in Rule 12 of the IT Rules,1962 on which the news is silent.
