Models in India generally need a GST number if their annual aggregate receipts exceed Rs. 20 lakhs. While not always mandatory based on the GST act, it depends on contractual agreements. Once registered, models must charge 18% GST on their fees and remit it to the government. Registration is a straightforward online process via the GST portal, requiring the correct SAC code for modelling services.
