On dividend the company already deducts and pays dividend distribution tax to the I T department. Hence it is exempt in the hands of the receipient

It is exempt u/s 115- O of the IT Act

Now the trend is opposite. From AY 2020-21, dividend is taxable in the hands of recipient.
