A senior citizen missed claiming the 80TTB deduction on their tax returns for the past three years and is seeking to claim it retroactively for a refund. While tax returns can generally be revised for up to four years, adding a new deduction that was not originally claimed is not possible through rectification. The deadline for revision has passed, meaning the deduction cannot be claimed on previous returns.

You are right, that the return can be rectified till 4 years, but there is difference between rectification and revision. In your case rectification will not help, as you need to claim additional deduction which had not been claimed in original return.
