Change name in Pan card

18 January 2011 My wife is a working in a bank and her name appears as "Prity chowdhury" in PAN card. Now after marriage, she wants to change her name as "Vidhi Agarawal" in Pan card and all her educational certificates. Please advice.

18 January 2011 For changing the name of a person the procedure requires filing of an application before the 1st class magistrate within the jurisdiction of the place of domicile. On obtaining the magistrate's affirmative order,she has to visit the General Administration Department at the relevant State Government, which may require her to publish an advertisement of name change in the newspaper. Then the relevant State Government will publish her name change in its official gazette. She can thereafter purchase copies of the relevant gazette where the name change is published as authentic evidence of the name change.

After this, apply for new PAN attaching therewith a copy of the relevant page of the above said gazette.
