Can anyone tell me that a private limited company become proprietor of any business?

A company can take over a running proprietorship business but in that case the company does not become the proprietor. Company has a separate legal entity but its ownership lies in the hand of Shareholders. Company can enter into a agreement, can own a business but can not be called a proprietor of a business.
