15 November 2013 During 3 years of articleship, what steps can we take as a learner to develop our practical skills in different areas(audit,taxation,laws etc) especially when articleship learning is not so satisfactory.

Please guide.

15 November 2013 for taxation and law, read as much as you can. subscribe to taxman's mailing list. this would help in updating tax knowledge.

Unfortunately, for audit I believe it is the real work only that can give you any useful experience. For this you can use various tactics:

1. Tell your bosses that you are willing to put in extra hours to get more exposure.

2. you can approach small proprietor businessman for accounting assignments. You can offer to do this pro-bono on the weekends. Accounting work can really improve your insights as an auditor.
