Sir, I am student of PCC, I have passed Gr.I only on the basis of my self study, but in Gr. II, i am not able to find how to effectively study taxation on self-basis. I also do not want to go to any coaching for it because i don't like it.
Please suggest some tips so that I can understand taxation in an effective manner.
1. As you are not attending any coaching class you are having more time than others. * 2.You can not grasp all the provisions in the first reading. If you read a provision at 3 different times you will learn 3 different points each time. * 3. First important thing is the selection of a Text-Book of your choice. You will get many things new in different books but do not get disturbed. Continue your study with the book you have selected until the topic is finished by you. * 4.It is important to keep the provisions in mind rather than Sections and Case laws. As you complete a topic, attempt some practical questions without looking to the solution, . This will again help you in understanding of the provisions, just studied by you. * After completing the syllabus, repeat it for at least two times. You will take half the time in the first revision and one fourth time in the Second Revision.

Good that you are not attending any coaching classes for what ever reasons. As regards tax is concerned most of the students fail in tax paper and the mars are in the range of 28 to 38. This not because they have not studied but it i due to the fact that they have not red the question paper properly. At the time of studying the Tax Paper do not waste your time on 1) Memo-rising the Section b) Memo-rising the Case Laws.
Then what to do. You concentrate on what is required by the section and the facts of the case. You study by doing practice and do not read the suggested answers. In the examination after reading the question paper properly you answer should in the following manner 1) Facts - Analyse the case study 2) Give the relevant provisions 3) Conclusion Part - Give the conclusion 4) There should be illegible 5) The answer the brief and to the point.
