18 February 2011 Mental retardation is covered under section 80DD. Certificate should be obtained from 'medical authority'. To avail deduction disability should be not less than 40%.
Deduction for 40 % to 79% disability - Rs.50,000/-
Deduction for 80% and above disability -Rs.1,00,000/-
