06 August 2011 One of our client has received notice regarding the non quoting of PAN on certain high value transactions, which has come over under notice of income Tax.
The client is the “Military Canteen“ and it’s just a Branch which sends its accounts to HO for consolidation.
1. Are these canteen (Branch) required to get the PAN?
2. These Military Canteens are, if exempted from the Income Tax, then under which sections they are covered?

06 August 2011 Canteens are generally exempted from payment of Central Excise as well as Income Tax Act but it is only for the purpose of income and not for compliance. Meet the assessing office and explain that the canteen is operated by Jawans and how much knowledge they have can be judged by them
