What was the year. Now a days credit is given even if the year mentioned is for the last year. You may revise the return and claim the refund.

If you made an income tax payment via Challan 280 for the wrong assessment year and did not use that payment while filing your return (because you filed for the correct year separately), here’s what you can do to get a refund of the wrong payment: Steps to Claim Refund for Wrong Year Payment: Check Challan Status: First, verify the status of your payment on the NSDL or TIN website using your Challan Identification Number (CIN). Submit Refund Application: File a refund claim with the Income Tax Department for the amount paid for the wrong assessment year. This is done by submitting Form 26AS Rectification Request or by sending a written application to the jurisdictional Assessing Officer (AO). Mention the details of the payment, the incorrect assessment year, and that you have already filed the return for the correct year. Rectification Request on TRACES Portal: You can also raise a request for refund through the TRACES website (https://www.tdscpc.gov.in). Under “Request for Refund,” select the appropriate option and provide the challan details. Attach Supporting Documents: Attach the copy of the challan, proof of payment, and your return filed for the correct year. Follow-up: The refund process may take a few weeks to months. Stay in touch with the AO or check status on the e-filing portal. Important Notes: Refund is allowed only if the payment is genuine and not adjusted against any demand. Interest on the refund amount is usually paid if the refund is delayed. Ensure that you do not claim this refund against any other year or liability.
