A taxpayer accidentally used the wrong PAN when paying their Self Assessment Tax for AY 2022-23. Despite paying the tax, they received an intimation showing a demand due to the incorrect PAN. The Income Tax Department advised them to apply offline for correction with the original challan copy to their Assessing Officer, as online rectification isn't possible until the PAN is fixed on the challan.

For rectifications in challans paid through online mode (internet challan) , taxpayer should contact their concerned Assessing Officer (AO) of the Income Tax Department (ITD) and apply offline for correction, with original challan copy.
